Rubber caps & silicone discs: Skid and scratch protection all in one

Rubber caps and self-adhesive silicone discs are the perfect accessories for pot and disc magnets. They are available in our webshop in many diameters and for different applications. They are very cost-effective and have the following advantages:

  • Both articles significantly increase the weight carrying capacity of magnets in shear direction due to elevated friction.
  • The weight carrying capacity to tension (= Indication of the maximum adhesive force), however, slightly decreases due to the additional gap between magnet and surface.
  • Both articles protect delicate surfaces (e.g. powder-coated magnetic boards, fridges, magnetic glass boards) from scratches that could occur otherwise from placing, moving around or removing magnets.
  • The perfect magnet and accessory pairs are listed with the respective individual article.

Rubber caps: Flexible and available in many sizes

Flexible rubber caps in various diameters can be put over the bottom side of pot and disc magnets.
Here you can find the right sizes for almost all of our pot magnets and many of our disc magnets.
  • The perfectly fitting magnets are 1 mm smaller in diameter than the rubber caps.
  • You can also use pot magnets with rubber coating as an alternative to rubber caps. They adhere significantly stronger in shear direction.
  • When a heavy load is put on a magnet in shear direction the rubber cap may come off the magnet, in which case it makes sense to glue the rubber cap onto the magnet.


Silicone discs: Diskreet and practical anti-skid pads

The black self-adhesive discs made of thin silicone are perfect to increase the friction between the disc magnet and the surface and thereby increase the adhesive force of the magnet in shear direction. You can either glue the pads directly to the bottom side of a round magnet or to the metal surface the magnets should be attached to. The strong 3M adhesive ensures a long-term hold.
  • Ideally, the silicone discs can double or triple the adhesive force of a magnet in shear direction. This increase depends, however, on the individual material pairing, the thickness of the magnets and potentially the temperature and can therefore not be calculated exactly.
  • The silicone discs are not helpful with small or very thin disc magnets since the additional distance of 0,5 mm (material thickness) between magnet and surface may even decrease the adhesive force.
  • Prior to using anti-skid pads on a larger scale, we definitely recommend performing some tests.
  • Like all self-adhesive products, silicone discs need to be placed and pressed to suitable surfaces and allowed to rest for best results. Please read our FAQ about self-adhesive magnets.
  • When a heavy load is applied to magnets in shear direction, the silicone discs may come off the magnets.
